Album Review: Robyn - Body Talk Pt. 3

The Body Talk series has come to it's final stages with the release of Body Talk pt. 3. Robyn was proud to announce that a continuation and final installment will be released in select regions whilst a complete compilation - Body Talk will be released in major markets.

The final installment part 3 contains five tracks - the dance version of Indestructible and four new upbeat, club-friendly tracks.

I got the leaked record a few days before its release. However, I want to get both Body Talk and Body Talk pt. 3 in physical copies to complete my collection. 

The part 3 is more of a celebration of the body talk series. The 5-track CD contains infectious beats that you'd just want to step out, hit the clubs and sing "I Came To Dance Not To Socialise" out loud. Well, that's what I'd do. 

Comparing it with its two predecesors, Body Talk pt. 3 impact is short but sweet. It is straight forward - dance like there's no tomorrow. Of the five tracks, my favourite would have to Get Myself Together. The dance version of Indestructible is also a good track however, its acoustic version claims the crown in being the better version. Another noteworthy track is Call Your Girlfriend; one would need to listen to it to understand what I mean. 

Given the same collaborators and producers, the songs in part 3 are very familiar with the sounds of part 1 and 2. Nothing very new aside from an extended array of choices for great Robyn songs. But one thing is for sure, you cannot just listen to the part 3 alone. It will make you crave for Robyn more. That's how great this record is people!

Album Review: Robyn - Body Talk Pt. 2

After the release of the dance version of Hang With Me, Body Talk pt.2 is set to be released on 06 September 2010. I got the leaked album a full month ahead of its released but decided to do my write-up later a few days prior its official release. I can't wait to get my hands on a physical copy!

After watching Hang With Me video and while loving the part 1, I immediately imagined how the part 2 would sound like. Well, it wasn't exactly how I imagined it - it was a bit of a letdown at first. Part 1 established a really high benchmark which admittedly and realistically challenging to top. However, part 2 gives its predecessor justice and still worthy of being a successor. 

The part 2 is more of a fun, clubby record. If part one sounded like a melo-dramatic juvenile trying to get heard and expressing oneself, the successor is more of a let-loose, I-don't-fucking-care-I'm-having-fun kinda record! But if you listen carefully to the lyrics and message of the songs, they express unpolished emotions like anxiety (In My Eyes) and heartbreak (Love Kills) covered in luscious and slick club beats. Filled with electro beats, most of the tracks are for targeted listeners only. The sound is very niched. Good thing I am a part of that niche! This record is an acquired taste. I advice one to listen to it repeatedly and put some intervals (days, hours) in listening to it and include in your set a different genre. I have personally done such and in doing so, I got to appreciate the sound more. Listening to it on a high-definition speaker or headphones helps a lot.

The highlight of this album includes U Should Know Better, a duet with a renowned hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg and of course the dance version of Hang With Me (part 1 contains the acoustic) plus a whole lot of electro-synths rich tracks like Include Me Out, to very noteworthy tracks We Dance To The Beat and  Criminal Intent and Indestructible (acoustic) which is a great slow Robyn song. 

I have slowly gone to love the 8 tracks on this record. They grow on me every time I listen to them. My faves are In My Eyes, Hang With Me, Criminal Intent, Indestructible.

Would be a shame if you didn't grab a copy of this fuckin-tastic record. Still worth the moola!

Robyn and the Body Talk series

It has been almost 5 years since Robyn last came out with a studio album (entitled: Robyn; internationally re-released as Konichiwa Bitches with 2 bonus tracks)

Now, Robyn comes up with a series of release: The Body Talk series released in 3 parts -- part 1 released in July 2010 whilst part 2 and 3 will be released in September and December 2010 respectively. This approach came up as an idea as suggested by Robyn's manager. Since Robyn didn't want long gaps in between releases, her manager suggested that she can already release finished materials, do a tour and keep on releasing every time she finishes a new batch of materials.

In an interview with Popjustice, Robyn mentioned that she thought she won't be able to write songs anymore for the rest of her life. She also explained this approach she took on the release of the Body Talk series and talk about each of the tracks on the part 1.
